Zanitel launches mobile app to boost tourism


Dar-es-Salaam-Tanzania’s data market leader Zantel, has launched a mobile application dubbed ‘Discover Tanzania mobile App’ with the aim of assisting local and foreign tourists to have proper information of the tourist attraction centers that are found in Tanzania.

Announcing the launch in Dar es Salaam, Zantel’s head of Marketing, Gasper Mbowa said, “We are extremely excited to launch this app for our customers in Tanzania but most importantly being the first mobile company to do so in Tanzania. This app is very easy to use but also very affordable to all local and foreign tourists, whereby a 3 days package is only 500Tsh, a 7 days package goes for 2000Tsh and for the whole month, customers will be charged only 3,000Tsh. He added that the short code for accessing the service via sms or voice for Zantel customers is 15582 where customers will be charged only 1Tsh per second.

“It is our belief that this platform will promote tourism as reliable information will be provided to local and foreign tourists. We will also make sure that we enhance security to enable tourists to be linked directly with the service provider Zantel” he added.

The tourism sector in Tanzania is an enormous engine of employment, since it directly employs 250,000 people every year.

According to the 2014 statistics from the Tanzania’s Ministry Of Natural Resources and Tourism, receipts from tourism arrivals reached USD 2 billion.
