Young achievers awards concluded in style

The 2017 Young Achievers Awards winners were announced last week at Kampala Serena Hotel.  The Young Achievers Awards is an award program that was started over five years ago to identify and recognize young people in Uganda, which have demonstrated excellence, innovation and leadership in their respective fields.  This year’s edition of the awards which was announced in January 23rd, attracted over 300 applicants from different parts of the country, that were vetted by two panels of distinguished judges. “The aim of the awards is to showcase the best examples of young entrepreneurs and leaders to serve as examples for their peers, so that they may inspire an entire generation to do just as much or even more,” Said Humphrey Nabimanya who is Team Leader & Founder of Reach A Hand Uganda.

Speaking to the guests, the Minister for Trade Hon. Amelia Kyambadde; who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and sacrifice in supporting the Young Achievers Awards Program, said that she will give each winner Shs 500,000 from her small savings, to help them improve more on their businesses. She said this after she was given the award for the Star Hall of Fame.  The event which ended at exactly 11pm in the night saw the artists like Nutty Neithan, Naava Grey, Lydia Jazmine and Geosteady performing for the guests. Others present for awards were Queen sheebah and Mun G. The event was mainly sponsored by Reach Hand Uganda.

 The full list of winners of the 2017 Young Achievers Awards is as follows:

  • Winner for the Young Achievers Award for Business –Ricky Papa Thompson, Co-Founder of SafeBoda
  • Winner for the Young Achievers Award for Outstanding Sports Personality -Jacob Kiplimo, Athlete
  • Winner for the Young Achievers Award for Media and Journalism Excellence -Ronald Wandera, Founder of ugextra.com
  • winner for the Young Achievers Award for Innovations & ICT -Gerald Otim, Co-Founder & Chief Operations Officer, Ensibuko
  • Winner s for the Young Achievers Award for Social Entrepreneurship presented by UniTED-Muhammed Kisirisa aka Slum Ambassador, Executive Director of AFFCAD
  • Winner for the Young Achievers Award for Farming and Agro-Processing  -Zilla Mary Arach, Co-Founder of Lacel Technologies
  • Winners for the Young Achievers Award for Creative Arts (Music)-Milege
  • Winner  for the Young Achievers Award for  Creative Arts (Fashion) -Brian Ahumuza of Abryanz Collection
