Jubilation, happiness as West Ankole gets new bishop

Rt. Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni was last Thursday consecrated and installed as the 4th Bishop of West Ankole Diocese at Bweranyangi, Bushenyi district. The Consecration Service was presided over by His Grace the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Stanley Ntagali. The Main celebrant was Rt. Rev Dr. Sheldon Mwesigye, the Bishop of East Ankole Diocese. Bishop Sheldon had a brilliant outing as he kept the Christians in good cheer cracking a good joke here and there and yet adhering to the order of service which remarkably ended at 12.45PM.

Bishop Johnson Twinomujuni takes over from Retired Bishop Yona Katonene.  President Yoweri Museveni was guest of honor. On the development front, the President said government has already identified a contractor to reconstruct the Katunguru-Ishaka road. “I thank the archbishop for talking about improving household income. I appeal to the church leadership to establish parish based poverty eradication programmes, which can work in tandem with Operation Wealth Creation” he said.

The President further called upon people of Bushenyi to desist from encroaching on wetlands. “I have talked to the leaders here so that we find a way of restoring the ones already destroyed but no more encroachment should happen”, he added.

On his part, Rt Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni hailed President Museveni for supporting the Church. He further hailed King Ceasor Mulenga for donating shs 50 million towards gracing the occasion. “I would like to extend my sincere thanks to King Ceasor Mulenga. What is in books is showing that he is the highest contributor of this occasion”, he said. He also hailed National Water and Sewerage Corporation and Bank of Uganda Governor Emanuel Tumusiime Mutebile among others, for attending the consecration ceremony and for their contributions. “May the Lord bless you abundantly and pay you back for the help you have given”, he said.
