Equity Bank is mobilizing hotels through the hotel umbrella organization; Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA), to embrace a cashless payment system known as Point of Sale (POS) system, aimed at easing customers’ transaction while at the hotel.
The system will effect bill payments and other transactions by swiping customers Visa cards through the POS machine which is linked to their banks accounts.
Equity Bank Manager, Payment and Channels Aisha L. Kaya last week said: “Technology is changing over time, there is need to bridge the gap between customers and hoteliers; through non cash payments which are secure and fast especially international travelers”.
Aisha adds that Equity bank is intending to roll out to all the hotels in Uganda, to put in place POS machines at the hotels, saying that currently over 123 hotels have embraced the technology.
The Executive Director, Uganda Hotel Owners Association, Jean Byamugisha, says that the POS system from Equity provides customers with options to spend as they wish while at the hotel venue, urging other members to put in place POS machines to enjoy the new technology, which she says is now used worldwide.
A technician of Equity Patrick Odongoya told hotel owners that the POS system is aimed at protecting the interests of the card holders. “The system mitigates visa card online, runs a robust secure payment management system through authentication, firewall protection and also constant training of merchant staff on visa card features”, he said.
