A new mobile phone payment system known as Chap Chap, has been launched in Uganda to enhance financial inclusion, a saving culture, promoting IT sector and use of mobile payments. The Chap Chap will enable users to earn and save while you top-up airtime, pay bills and shop online.
While launching the platform at Kampala Imperial Royal Hotel last week, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, ICT and Communications Bagiira Vincent Waiswa commended the chap chap team for the technology innovation, saying that they have tested the Technology of Chap Chap and has proved that it has ensured integrity measures. “In addition, it has covered the legal environment requirements and Government will render you support”, he said. He added that; if well nurtured it will be reckoned with by everyone including leaders in Uganda.
Bagiira further urged the team to ensure that customers and agents are sensitized about the importance of authenticity and quality assurance, to make sure the users are secure while operating on the platform.
The Director, Chap Chap Limited, Emanuel Emnok, says the system provides payment services at the comfort of the user. He adds that people have embraced the system and the number of users has risen to more than 16,000.
Emok added that; the platform includes all partners in the business and making affiliate programs with service providers like Telecom companies, Utility companies, hospitals among others. He pointed out that the challenges that the platform encounters include; the low adaptability of ICT in the country, expensive and unreliable internet connectivity in some areas and remote areas which cannot access internet among others.
